W3C is pleased to announce a  report  from the  W3C/OGC Joint Workshop Series on Maps for the Web , held in September & October, 2020. Through live presentations, panel discussions, and pre-recorded videos, workshop participants discussed requirements and proposals for Web platform maps. As an outcome of the workshop, participants seek to initiate a cross-community (W3C, OGC among others) working group that will define a roadmap to specify and implement native Web maps. The ongoing work was initiated and has been incubated in the ​ W3C Maps for HTML Community Group ​ since late 2014. Anyone interested in participating in the Maps for the Web discussions should join the free W3C Community Group. 25 October 2016  The  Spatial Data on the Web WG , a collaboration between W3C and the  OGC , has today published two documents. The  Use Cases & Requirements  document is believed to be complete and underpins the WG’s considerable scope, motivating 3 standards in addition to today’s other publication, the  Spatial Data on the Web Best Practices . The latter has been rewritten substantially to build expressly on the more general  Data on the Web Best Practices , currently in  CR . The aim is to provide guidance that bridges the gap between the practices and mindsets in the two communities so that the Web is better able to make sense of location and geospatial systems are better able to benefit from non-spatial data on the Web. The W3C Semantic Sensor Network Incubator Group has published their final report . As networks of sensors become more commonplace there is a greater need for their management and querying to be assisted by standards and computer reasoning. Building on the OGC's Sensor Web Enablement services-based architecture and standards, including four description languages, the group produced ontologies for describing sensors and extended a language to support semantic annotations. The report lists use-cases and reviews existing ontologies leading to the selection of the SSN ontology, analyzes examples and semantic markup as well as mapping to existing standards. The report also includes a list of directions for future work in the context of Linked Sensor Data, or Semantic Internet of Things for work at the border of Internet of Things and Internet of Service.
