IMSC Hypothetical Render Model is a W3C Proposed Recommendation

  Today the   Timed Text Working Group   published   IMSC Hypothetical Render Model   as a W3C Proposed Recommendation. This specification specifies an Hypothetical Render Model (HRM) that constrains the presentation complexity of documents that conform to the Text Profiles specified in any edition of Internet Media Subtitles and Captions ([ IMSC ]). The model is not intended as a specification of the processing requirements for implementations. For instance, while the model defines glyph cache for the purpose of modelling how the number of glyph drawing operations can be reduced, it neither requires the implementation of such a cache, nor models the sub-pixel glyph positioning and anti-aliased glyph rendering that can be used to produce text output. W3C Invites Implementations of TTML Profiles for Internet Media Subtitles and Captions 1.2

The  Timed Text Working Group  has published a Candidate Recommendation of  TTML Profiles for Internet Media Subtitles and Captions 1.2 . This specification defines two profiles of [ ttml2 ]: a text-only profile and an image-only profile. These profiles are intended to be used across subtitle and caption delivery applications worldwide, thereby simplifying interoperability, consistent rendering and conversion to other subtitling and captioning formats. This specification improves on [ ttml-imsc1.1 ] by supporting contemporary practices, while retaining compatibility with [ttml-imsc1.1] documents. It provides one new feature, which permits external font files to be referenced explicitly. One existing feature has been clarified, and no features have been deprecated in this version.

4 April 2019 The  Timed Text Working Group  has published an updated Candidate Recommendation of  WebVTT: The Web Video Text Tracks Format . This specification defines WebVTT, the Web Video Text Tracks format. Its main use is for marking up external text track resources in connection with the HTML <track> element. WebVTT files provide captions or subtitles for video content, and also text video descriptions  [MAUR] , chapters for content navigation, and more generally any form of metadata that is time-aligned with audio or video content. This specification is based on the  Draft Community Group Report  of the  Web Media Text Tracks Community Group .

Last Call: Simple Delivery Profile for Closed Captions (US)

03 January 2013 The Timed Text Working Group has published a Last Call Working Draft of Simple Delivery Profile for Closed Captions (US) . This document, expected to become a Group Note, specifies the Simple Online Delivery Profile (US) of the Timed Text Markup Language (TTML). The primary goal of the profile is to establish a minimum level of interoperability between TTML10 and legacy caption formats employed in US markets, such as CEA608 and CEA708. Simple Delivery Profile for Closed Captions (US) Draft Published

13 September 2012 The Timed Text Working Group has published the First Public Working Draft of Simple Delivery Profile for Closed Captions (US) . This document defines the behavior expected of a presentation processor using the player constraints for such an online delivery profile. The Simple Online Delivery profile is focused on streamlined delivery of closed captions on the Internet. This interoperability profile supports core TTML features to deliver content originating legacy formats such as CEA-608 and -708 content, and is targeted primarily for delivery in US markets. The Simple Delivery Profile for Closed Captions focuses interoperability using TTML 1.0 to support delivery of closed captions for video content. Other profiles based on TTML 1.0 may target other types of subtitles such as on-screen text or graphics. This interoperability profile is a proper subset of TTML 1.0 plus features required to support US Government closed captioning requirements for onlin...
