Draft Note: String Searching

  The  Internationalization Working Group  has published a first Draft Note of  String Searching . This document describes string searching operations on the Web in order to allow greater interoperability. String searching refers to natural language string matching such as the "find" command in a Web browser. This document builds upon the concepts found in  Character Model for the World Wide Web 1.0: Fundamentals  and  Character Model for the World Wide Web 1.0: String Matching  to provide authors of specifications, software developers, and content developers the information they need to describe and implement search features suitable for global audiences

Draft Note: Khmer Layout Requirements

  The   Internationalization Working Group   has published a first Draft Note of   Khmer Layout Requirements . This document describes or points to requirements for the layout and presentation of text in languages that use the Khmer script. The target audience is developers of Web standards and technologies, such as HTML, CSS, Mobile Web, Digital Publications, and Unicode, as well as implementers of web browsers, ebook readers, and other applications that need to render Khmer text.

Draft Note: Korean Layout Gap Analysis

  The  Internationalization Working Group  has published a first Draft Note of  Korean Layout Gap Analysis . This document describes and prioritises gaps for the support of Korean language on the Web and in eBooks. In particular, it is concerned with text layout. It checks that needed features are supported in W3C specifications, in particular HTML and CSS and those relating to digital publications. It also checks whether the features have been implemented in browsers and ereaders.  This is a preliminary analysis .

Working Group Note: Character Model for the World Wide Web: String Matching

4 February 2019 The  Internationalization Working Group  has published a new Working Group Note:  Character Model for the World Wide Web: String Matching  which provides authors of specifications, software developers, and content developers a common reference on string identity matching on the World Wide Web and thereby increase interoperability. String identity matching is the process by which a specification or implementation defines whether two string values are the same or different from one another. It describes the ways in which texts that are semantically equivalent can be encoded differently and the impact this has on matching operations important to formal languages. Topics include normalization and case folding.

W3C Invites Implementations of Encoding

The  Internationalization Working Group  invites implementations of an updated Candidate Recommendation of  Encoding . The utf-8 encoding is the most appropriate encoding for interchange of Unicode, the universal coded character set. Therefore for new protocols and formats, as well as existing formats deployed in new contexts, this specification requires (and defines) the utf-8 encoding. The other (legacy) encodings have been defined to some extent in the past. However, user agents have not always implemented them in the same way, have not always used the same labels, and often differ in dealing with undefined and former proprietary areas of encodings. This specification addresses those gaps so that new user agents do not have to reverse engineer encoding implementations and existing user agents can converge.
