Last Call: Canonical EXI

21 May 2015 The Efficient XML Interchange Working Group has published a Last Call Working Draft of Canonical EXI . Any EXI document is part of a set of EXI documents that are logically equivalent within an application context, but which vary in physical representation based on differences permitted by the Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) Format 1.0 (Second Edition). This specification describes a relatively simple method for generating a physical representation, the canonical form, of an EXI document that accounts for the permissible changes. An example of the applications targeted by this specification is one that needs to guarantee non-repudiation using XML Signature yet allows certain flexibility for intermediaries to reconstitute the documents before they reach final destination without breaking the signatures. Last Call: XQuery Update Facility 3.0

19 February 2015 The XML Query Working Group has published a Last Call Working Draft of XQuery Update Facility 3.0 . This document defines an update facility that extends the XML Query language, XQuery. The XQuery Update Facility 3.0 provides expressions that can be used to make persistent changes to instances of the XQuery and XPath Data Model 3.0. Comments are welcome through 19 March. W3C Invites Implementations of XSLT and XQuery Serialization 3.1

19 February 2015 Today the XSLT Working Group and the XML Query Working Group jointly published a Candidate Recommendation for, and invite implementations of, XSLT and XQuery Serialization 3.1 . The serialization specification defines output methods in XML, HTML, plain or formatted text and JSON. The specification returned to Working Draft to add an Adaptive serialization closer to industry practice for ad-hoc formatting of results. An extensive test suite is available. Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) Format 1.0 (Second Edition) is a W3C Recommendation

11 February 2014 The Efficient XML Interchange Working Group has published a W3C Recommendation of Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) Format 1.0 (Second Edition) . This document is the specification of the Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) format. EXI is a very compact representation for the Extensible Markup Language (XML) Information Set that is intended to simultaneously optimize performance and the utilization of computational resources. The EXI format uses a hybrid approach drawn from the information and formal language theories, plus practical techniques verified by measurements, for entropy encoding XML information. Using a relatively simple algorithm, which is amenable to fast and compact implementation, and a small set of datatype representations, it reliably produces efficient encodings of XML event streams. XML processor profiles Note Published

6 February 2014 The XML Processing Model Working Group has published a Working Group Note of XML processor profiles . This specification defines several XML processor profiles, each of which defines how any given XML document should be processed, both operationally and in terms of what information must be made available to applications. It is intended as a resource for other specifications, which can by a single normative reference establish precisely what input processing they require as well as what information they require. W3C Invites Implementations of XML Inclusions (XInclude) Version 1.1

9 October 2013 The XML Core Working Group invites implementation of the Candidate Recommendation of XML Inclusions (XInclude) Version 1.1 . Many programming languages provide an inclusion mechanism to facilitate modularity. Markup languages also often have need of such a mechanism. This specification introduces a generic mechanism for merging XML documents (as represented by their information sets) for use by applications that need such a facility. 23 July 2013 The XML Query Working Group has published a Last Call Working Draft of XQuery 3.0: An XML Query Language . XML is a versatile markup language, capable of labeling the information content of diverse data sources including structured and semi-structured documents, relational databases, and object repositories. A query language that uses the structure of XML intelligently can express queries across all these kinds of data, whether physically stored in XML or viewed as XML via middleware. This specification describes a query language called XQuery, which is designed to be broadly applicable across many types of XML data sources. Comments are welcome through 13 August.
