First Public Working Draft: Web Audio API 1.1

The   Audio Working Group   has published a First Public Working Draft of   Web Audio API 1.1 . This specification describes a high-level Web   API   for processing and synthesizing audio in web applications. The primary paradigm is of an audio routing graph, where a number of   AudioNode   objects are connected together to define the overall audio rendering. The actual processing will primarily take place in the underlying implementation (typically optimized Assembly / C / C++ code), but   direct script processing and synthesis   is also supported. The  Introduction  section covers the motivation behind this specification. This API is designed to be used in conjunction with other APIs and elements on the web platform, notably: XMLHttpRequest  [XHR]  (using the  responseType  and  response  attributes). For games and interactive applications, it is anticipated to be used with the  canvas ...

W3C Invites Implementations of Web Audio API

18 September 2018 The  Audio Working Group  invites implementations of  Web Audio API  Candidate Recommendation. Web Audio is a high-level Web API for processing and synthesizing audio in web applications. The primary paradigm is of an audio routing graph, where a number of AudioNode objects are connected together to define the overall audio rendering. The actual processing will primarily take place in the underlying implementation, but using AudioWorklet, direct script processing and synthesis from JavaScript or WebAssembly is also supported.

Web MIDI API Draft Published

The Audio Working Group has published an updated Working Draft of Web MIDI API . This specification provides users with a bridge between a Web browser and their MIDI-capable devices, such as musical instruments, lighting controls, or any other MIDI device. With this API, users can control or exchange information with MIDI devices directly from the browser. The Web MIDI API is a low-level feature, intended for use with other web platform features, like the Web Audio API, with the goal of familiarity for users of operating-system-level MIDI APIs, such as Apple’s CoreMIDI and Microsoft’s Windows MIDI API. W3C Renews Audio Working Group

26 September 2012 W3C announced today the renewal of the Audio Working Group , whose mission is to add advanced sound and music capabilities to the Open Web Platform. The new charter adds a new deliverable, the Web MIDI API, which will provide a bridge between the browser and MIDI capable devices, such as musical instruments and controllers, and has great interest from the MIDI Manufacturers Association. The charter also clarifies the Web Audio API deliverable and timeline. See the Audio Working Group Charter for more information, and read more about the Interaction Domain .
